The EUSDR Operational Evaluation was finalized, the main focus falling on governance aspects, communication and stakeholder involvement of the EUSDR. The final report may be downloaded here.

The Danube Strategy Point invites interested parties to submit proposals for conducting an operational evaluation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
In order to respond to this call for an expression of interest, interested experts must demonstrate their experience, capacity and suggested approach to carrying out the operational evaluation in view of the specification presented in the terms of reference.
Interested experts are advised to read the document in detail before drafting and submitting their offer. The offers, including all relevant documents, must be submitted in English, no later than 4 March, 2019, 13.00 (CET).

Vienna - WWF presented today a Gift to the Earth, its highest award, to the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) at a ceremony at the UN in Vienna. “WWF has given a Gift to the Earth, its highest award, in recognition of the transformational role that the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River has played in promoting and securing clean flowing rivers as well as healthy habitats and species in the Danube River Basin, and in serving as a model for integrated river basin management across the world’s most international river basin,” said Andreas Beckmann, Managing Director of the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme.

On 3 December 2018, the Transport Ministers of the countries of the Danube region gathered in Brussels upon invitation of EU Commissioner Violeta Bulc to reinforce their commitment to an effective navigation status of the Danube and its navigable tributaries.
The Danube Transport ministers of 10 countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine) adopted the “Conclusions on effective waterway infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance on the Danube and its navigable tributaries”.

The EU is taking steps to reduce CO2 emissions of cars and vans. Under the revised rules, there will be stricter CO2 emission standards for new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. A provisional agreement reached by the Presidency and Parliament representatives on 17 December was endorsed by member states today.
The new rules will ensure that from 2030 onwards new cars will emit on average 37.5% less CO2 and new vans will emit on average 31% less CO2 compared to 2021 levels. Between 2025 and 2029, both cars and vans will be required to emit 15% less CO2.
